Charleston's Lost National Park

Fri, Aug 5th 2016 3:12 pm by steve smith Charleston Tourism

Did you ever wonder what the structure and small island just off the Charleston SC Battery Park is?  For those of us that are boaters, we have come 25903558193_5225acaaff_kto know Castle Pinckney as a navigation landmark, but frankly most of us have no idea of its history or that it was once a US National Park that was later abandoned.

It has been used as a fort and a prison, and it is believed that there has never been a shot fired from the fort.

After a day at the office there is nothing better than stopping at one of the many spots in Mount Pleasant for Happy Hour.  While there are so many places to go, here are just a few of my favorites (you can click on the name of each to go to their website) :

There is a good mixed age crowd here from young to old, and you can walk the Shem Creek Dock to see the scenery and shrimp boats.  Our charter fishing boat The Reel Interest will be docked there starting July 1st, so expe...

Blackbaud Company Expanding Headquarters on Daniel Island!

Thu, May 19th 2016 10:28 am by steve smith Daniel Island News Updates

Blackbaud Company announced today that they are building a new headquarters on Daniel Island and have committed to hire another 300 people there in return for some tax credits from Berkeley County.  The software company has over 3,100 employees worldwide, and over 1,000 are at the current Daniel Island facility next to the MUSC Sports Stadium complex for soccer.

While certainly good for the local economy, this move bodes well for property owners on Daniel Island, both residents and investors.  As the traffic continues to build on the Mark Clark Expressway, and we have these things called bridges that always seem to congest, their employees will want to live locally.  There is presently...

Charleston South Carolina- Home To Some Great BBQ!

Mon, May 16th 2016 2:27 pm by steve smith Charleston Tourism

The South is home to Barbeque and claims are that BBQ was invented in South Carolina.  There are over 200 barbeque "joints" across South Carolina, and we have plenty of great places here in Charleston.  You'll find 4 common sauces in the state which everyone debates about which is
the best- mustard, Vinegar and pepper, light tomato and heavy tomato sauces.

I have tried a bunch of the local BBQ restaurants including Melvins, Bessimers, Fiery Rons, Jim n' Nicks, Dukes and more, but I have to tell you that my two favorite places are Swig n Swine on 17 South (Savannah HWY) and Home Team BBQ on Sullivan's Island.  Home Team also has a location in Charleston and West Ashley.

I found this ...

It's To Change HVAC Filters- and Save Money $$$

Fri, Apr 8th 2016 10:47 am by steve smith Home Repairs

It is that time of the year to change your HVAC filters in the Southeast as the temperatures rise and HVAC units work harder.  The number one reason for your Air Conditioning unit to fail is due to a clogged filter.

Why should I change my air filter?

1. A dirty air filter is the #1 reason for HVAC system failure. A dirty filter restricts the air flow into your HVAC systems air handler. This restricted air flow places additional strain on the air handler fan motor and could, over time, burn out the motor and cause your system to overheat and ultimately fail. Filter replacement is a small price to pay to extend to life of one of the biggest financial investments in your home.

2. A dirty air ...
