Stopping Junk Mail to your Charleston Address

Posted By @ Mar 13th 2014 10:20am In: News From Charleston Metro Homes

If you just bought a new home in Charleston, you're probably in the market for furniture. But if you live in an apartment building, chances are you won't be shopping for a lawn mower. Companies want to reach people who are most likely to be interested in what they have to offer. That's why they rent or buy relevant mailing lists to help them find prospective customers—instead of just sending mail at random.

We all hate junk mail and the amount we receive each day keeps growing. We found a on-line service that will help you manage and stop un wanted junk mail landing at your Charleston Home each day. DMAchoice™ is an online tool developed by the Direct Marketing Association to help you manage your mail. This site is part of a larger program designed to respond to consumers' concerns over the amount of mail they receive, and it is the evolution of the DMA's Mail Preference Service created in 1971.

For the purposes of this site, direct mail is divided into four categories: Credit Offers, Catalogs, Magazine Offers and Other Mail Offers. You can request to start or stop receiving mail from individual companies within each category—or from an entire category at once.

Why do we want to help you manage your mail?

Good question. We hear that one a lot. Each year, direct marketing generates more than $2 trillion in sales and charitable donations in the United States alone. But we know that for direct marketing to remain successful, marketers must maintain a healthy relationship with consumers.

Register by Mail
Registering for the mail preference service through this site is the fastest and easiest way to create your account. However, if you'd rather send your information by mail, please download the registration form(PDF – 16KB), print it and send it along with a check for $1 (one dollar) to the DMA (instructions included on form). To view the registration form, you will need Adobe Reader.
To start managing your mail, one of the first things you'll need to figure out is whether companies consider you a prospect or a customer. What's the difference? Glad you asked.

If you receive mail from companies you've never bought from, you're a prospect—and your name is on a list they're using to try to find new customers.

However, if you have purchased from a company in the past, you are considered a customer.

Why is this important? Well, if you request to stop receiving mail for an entire category (for example, you don't want to receive catalogs anymore), companies are required to remove you from their prospect list. But if you are a customer of a particular catalog, that company needs to keep you on their list for invoicing—and in case you ever return an item. So, you will keep receiving mail from them and will need to contact them directly to be removed. On DMAchoice, we'll connect you to these companies' websites or customer service departments—making the process of managing your mail as quick and hassle-free as possible.
We have checked out this service and this is a credible means of STOPPING JUNK mail.
